The gut feeling (animation)
This scene study made with BLENDER and rendered in EEVEE originally is based on the photograph of a friend that he made in Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén). That image disturbed me, somehow I felt a tense calm, like what we call presentiment or hunch: you don't know what it is but you feel it. It made me wonder how I could bring that feeling to the screen and what visual and sound references I have in my memory that have made me feel something similar. I thought of sacred places or ancient buildings that have been inhabited and what happens in them, because despite having or not beliefs, at least in the West, those rituals or events that occur in them are observed with a certain respect or caution. On the other hand, I thought of Kubrick's films, and although there are many references to other filmmakers, he was able to freeze the camera and turn the shot into the most unsustainable tension and this led me to other films where the uncertainty or uneasiness is not only told with the story but with the light, the one that flickers, which in horror films is often used (The Exorcist, 1973), the one that has its own life even if it is electric (Poltergeist: Strange Phenomena, 1982) and the one that even being natural, because of some atmospheric inclemency, seems not to be compatible with life (Blade Runner 2049, from 2019 or the haze that I experienced in my own flesh in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in February 2020). The hunch or premonition is often distressing because it remains for a while in the body, like a buzzing that does not stop, and I immediately went to the swarms of insects (The Silence of the Lambs, 1991) or flocks of birds, beings that individually may seem harmless but that in groups terrify us even on the big screen (The Birds, 1963). In the cinema, to increase this feeling of anxiety, the image is usually accompanied by a singular soundtrack, ranging from stringed instruments with high-pitched tones to low and distorted metallic beats to the underworld. Here is just a brief sample of images as a reference because they are innumerable.
Ringing of the bell
Ringing of the bell. Days ago a friend shared an image on his instagram that disturbed me a lot @sebineithor (last picture),in that snapshot I could hear the ringing of the bell, feel the temperature and hear the flight of some birds by the sudden noise. I share with you this study of the image made in Blender and rendered in Eevee while I continue investigating how to animate the bell and how to make that swarm fly as I want in a particle system sometimes difficult to control.
WIP Dangerous Laisons Tribute
I've been working (by myself) for months on a Blender scene (modeling, shading, lighting, rigging, animation, VFX...) that is being a headache and also a great learning experience. It is based on a scene from the 1988 film that marked, along with many others, my childhood and is part of my archive and visual study, Dangerous Liaisons directed by Stephen Frears, based on the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos and whose photography is masterfully directed by Philippe Rousselot. In my scene there are no characters, however I believe that it is possible to make stories of places with soul. Here I show part of the process.
